1 - 6 January
Tidied the overgrown cold frame and dug a new bed
Emptied some of the growing bags and spread compost on a rough bed
Harvested carrots, parsnips, savoy and Kilaton cabbage
Started putting new posts to support kiwi
Some rhubarb is shooting
First hellebores are flowering
Gradually ticking off winter jobs
7 - 13 January
No visit to the allotment this week
Bulbs are beginning to push through
First crocus bud appeared
Bought some fleecy lined garden gloves
Mahonia flowering

14 - 20 January
Broke spade harvesting parsnips
Gave fruit trees a winter wash
Added new posts to kiwi fence
Started to tidy gooseberries by the kiwi
Started to clear around native primroses
Visited Potteric Carr
Watched starling murmuration
End of the week turned very cold.

Cut back laurel hedge
Tied in kiwi
Did some weeding and clearing
Started clearing overgrown patch
Main seed order arrived
Bought seed potatoes
Harvested first swede and more beetroot
