1 - 4 February

 

 

Visited the lot to harvest vegetables

Sprayed fruit trees with winter wash

Tidied some of the rhubarb clumps

Sowed seeds from the clivia

Snowdrops starting to open

Buds starting to swell on some fruit bushes

Frozen seed potatoes maybe

 

5 - 11 February

 

Hyacinths are in flower

Hellebores are flowering

Garrya tassels are fully open

Clivia seeds are shooting

Apricot has flower buds

Alliums and tulips are pushing through

Better safe than sorry

A sudden stratospheric warming

 

12 - 18 February

 

Had a sprinkling of snow

Visited the plot to cut back the hawthorn tree and buddleias

Did some more tidying

Male and female flowers of cobnut are open

Doing their best

Second attempt at growing clivias

Not my idea of a beautiful day

Just a load of rhubarb

Serious pruning

 

19 - 25 February

 

Visited plot to cut up hawthorn prunings for pea sticks

Harvested to replenish vegetable sticks at home

Moved seed potatoes from greenhouse to the porch as hard frosts predicted

Crocuses starting to flower

Some narcissus in bud

Apricot blossom is swelling

Had a day in the Yorkshire Dales.

Not much happening

Might move potatoes again

Midnight potato rescue

Too cold to garden

Not much snow so far this week

 

26 - 28 February

It snowed and temperatures were way below freezing.

Forecast correct - snow showers

It may be some time before we go positive again
