This diary is a summary of our garden activities. The links are to blog posts that often give more detail.

1 - 8 April

 

Easter Monday we had snow again

Frogspawn survived

Camellias, pieris forsythia flowering

Fruit bushes breaking bud

Daffodils and primroses flowering on the allotment

Tidied allotment greenhouse and more beds

Harvested last of parsnips and froze them

Harvested leeks, sprouts and some purple sprouting broccoli

Garden perennials are shooting and flowering

Apricot seems to have set some fruit

Planted potatoes - Casablanca, Jazzy, Elfie, Mayan Gold, Carlingford, Apache and carolus

9 - 15 April

 

Wet, grey and miserable

Fruit definitely setting on apricot

Tidied garden

Cut back passion flower hard

Restained cold frames

Day out in North Yorkshire

Trimmed lavenders

First harvest of rhubarb

Camellias in full flower

More wet weather

Like November or December but there's promise

Still waiting for spring - gardening on hold

Just a bit of rhubarb

At last spring - our warmest day

16 - 22 April

 

A taste of summer and the blossom is out

Two day break in Norfolk

Planted five rows of potatoes - Nadine, Cara, Rooster, Kestrel and Osprey

Harvested last of leeks and parsnips

Harvested rhubarb

More tidying on the plot

First lot of potato bags ready for topping up.

Radio Leeds Breakfast Show visit

Planted first lot of broad beans

Sowed first lot of peas

Trimmed grapevine

Planted early brassicas, calabrese, cabbage and cauliflower

Tomatoes have germinated

Aubergines and peppers have started to germinate

Planted Charlotte potatoes

Removed more weed control fabric

What a difference a bit of sun makes

Back to normal

Funny sort of mainly dry day
