June 2023 Video Diary

Some clips of our visits to Temple Newsam and Nostell Priory with Ruby over the last couple of weeks. The best bit of our visit to Temple Newsam was certainly the delphiniums growing in the walled garden. At Nostell Priory all 6 cygnets seem to be growing well. We forgot to take any food and couldn’t tempt the cygnets near to the lake’s edge. In the park, the lime trees are in full bloom giving off a lovely scent.

A visit to the plot to water the tomatoes in the greenhouse and harvest some vegetables for dinner. We’ve at last had some rain so no outdoor watering was required. Hopefully, the rain will increase the potato yield but in the meantime, I decided we’d try some Ulster Prince first early potatoes. We harvested some calabrese and turnips to accompany the potatoes.

A walk around our garden including our patio tubs full of summer bedding. Our main perennial flower borders are also full of colour at this time of year. It also includes the vegetables we are growing at home such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Some of these are growing outside and some are in the greenhouse. Ruby of course gets her nose into everything.

Firstly, an apology regarding the sound in this video. I think we had some sort of problem with a microphone or microphone connection which spoilt the sound on this video. When we went to the allotment, our intention was to do some watering, but in the end, we finished up harvesting all our garlic, some strawberries and a calabrese head for dinner.

We had a couple of afternoon walks around Nostell Priory. We managed to see the cygnets and were pleased to see that all six were still surviving. The cows have been moved into one of the large fields cutting down on some of our walking options as we don’t like walking Ruby in fields with cows. Apparently, crows have been swooping on walkers and in one case causing some minor injuries as the crows are protecting their young.

We have just about got the allotment fully planted up. At the time of this video, we still had to plant some courgettes and squashes but they are done now. We will soon be digging up potatoes and harvesting cabbages and calabrese so no sooner is the plot fully planted up than we begin harvesting and emptying it.
