🌦️ August 2026 – Monthly Weather Summary

August was a warm but changeable month, with a particularly hot spell in the middle of the month followed by a much cooler and wetter period towards the end.

🌡️ Temperature

The month’s mean temperature was 17.9°C.

• Highest temperature: 36.4°C on 13 August
• Lowest temperature: 7.2°C on 24 August
• There were two days when the temperature exceeded 32°C.
• The hottest period was around 12–14 August, when daytime highs reached 33.9°C, 36.4°C and 29.3°Crespectively.
• Temperatures then dropped considerably, with highs of only 15.8°C on the 20th and 18.8°C on the 21st.
• The coolest mornings were towards the latter part of the month, with 7.2°C recorded on both the 23rd and 24th.

🌧️ Rainfall

August produced 40.2 mm of rain, spread over 13 days.

• 6 days recorded more than 2 mm.
• The wettest day was 27 August with 11.8 mm.
• Other significant rainfall came towards the end of the month, including 5.8 mm on the 28th, 3.2 mm on the 30th and 4.6 mm on the 31st.
• The first half of August was notably dry, with very little rain apart from small amounts on the 4th and 5th.

This meant the month started with generally dry, warm conditions, while the second half became progressively more unsettled.

💨 Wind

Winds were generally light, with an average speed of only 0.7 mph for the month. The highest recorded wind speed was 22 mph on 5 August, with westerly winds being the most common direction.

🌿 Overall picture

August started warm and predominantly dry, with some very pleasant summer weather and a short but intense heatwave in the middle of the month. The temperature peaked at 36.4°C on the 13th, making this the standout weather event of the month. After the middle of August, conditions changed noticeably, with cooler temperatures and increasing rainfall. The final week was particularly unsettled, with the month’s heaviest rain falling on the 27th and further rain through the last few days.

For the garden and allotment, it was therefore a month of two distinct halves – hot and dry conditions early on, followed by cooler, wetter weather towards the end.
