Somebody has been fly tipping on our plot

I was annoyed to find that somebody had decided to dump all their rubbish on our plot. Looks like a plot holder had collected all their rubbish, put it in an old dustbin and dumped the lot on our plot. This is the new allotment spirit!

Planting this year’s trial potatoes, Harry,Jacky, Caesar and Mozart

Our first potatoes to be planted this year are our trial potatoes. Four different varieties any one of which could make it into our favourites listing by producing a good crop this year.

An attempt to protect our cherry tree from wood pigeons.

Every year, wood pigeons devastate our cherry tree. They eat the leaves and flowers and devour any cherries that make it through the spring attacks. We’ve tried unsuccessfully to cover the tree with netting for the last couple of years with little success, as it’s difficult to cover the tree with netting without damaging it. I thought I’d try a new method this year.

Planting our early potatoes (Ulster Prince) with a little help(??) from Ruby.

It was a lovely, sunny, warm morning for early April, so we took Ruby down to the plot to help us plant our early potatoes. What could possibly go wrong?

Bluebells galore at Nostell plus Ruby’s game

The bluebells were in full bloom at Nostell Priory this week. Unfortunately, photos and videos don’t do them justice. Once we’d almost finished our walk around the parkland, we gave Ruby a quick game of chase the ball.

Ruby among the azaleas and rhododendrons at Temple Newsam

On this week’s walk at Temple Newsam, the azaleas and rhododendrons were putting on a stunning display. I don’t think they are quite at their peak yet, but it can be a little difficult to judge exactly when they are at their very best, as the rhododendrons don’t all bloom at the same time. For now, simply enjoy the colour and beauty of the display as we explore with Ruby.
