It begins

The snow has almost all disappeared. All that remains are mounds where snow had been piled up. The snowman, that interested Ruby so much the previous week, is now a shadow of its former self and was of no interest.

We didn’t venture to the allotment. This time, it wasn’t the weather that kept us away rather, we were busy doing other things, but more on that later.

I always reckon that the gardening year begins once our seed orders start arriving Last week our main seed order arrived These are all from Kings Seeds; as members of the National Allotment Society, these seeds are offered at a good discount. If you are curious about the varieties, just tap/click, on the first image in the gallery below and scroll through the larger versions.

Instead of buying individual packets of annual flower seeds, this year I bought mixed packets. I just hope the annual flower bed is more successful than it was last year. Other than the sweet Williams and sweet peas, the other flower seeds are destined for roots in the garden.

Other than walks with Ruby, we have been busy decorating one of our bedrooms. This always takes longer than anticipated especially when the old paper stubbornly refuses to part with the wall and modern paint seems to need far more coats than it used to.

I did do some work too but as I took the photos it looks as though I just stood and watched.

Finally, we still needed to eat.

I made a vegetable biryani using some of our red onions, garlic, potato and carrots along with green beans and peas from the freezer. To save time I made a chicken stew using the slow cooker, Into this went our carrots, potatoes, onion and garlic.Stir fries are always handy when time is short so I made a Thai turkey stir fry using  red onion, garlic, frozen green beans and red chilli.

That’s all for this week so as always stay safe, stay well and stay warm.

It is too cold here to garden. It was -17 this morning. Hopefully, it is supposed to warm up. I need to get my seeds ordered. Thanks for sharing. If Ruby would like to play in the snow she can take a little trip across the pond and visit.
