Freezing cold end to November – is it that unusual?

It’s been a freezing cold end to November. Sunday was the coldest day in the spell with the average temperature for the day coming in at -0.2°C or 31.6°F. However, not only was it bitterly cold we also had falling snow on two consecutive days.

I’ve done a bit of searching through my photos to see if I could find some of snow in previous Novembers. I had to go back to 2010 to find the photo below.

I’m hoping we don’t get another winter like that of 2010/11 as it turned out to be one of the coldest winters in 100 years. Obviously, we should not be due another one like that so soon but it is not impossible.

Looking through my temperature records over the last 12 years, a cold snap at the end of November is more common than I would have guessed.

Low temperature records for November 2010 – 2021

It looks like you could say that we’ve had six Novembers that have ended with a cold snap.

The rain and snow over the last few days will certainly have made the ground at the allotment too wet for digging. The forecast for the next few days is mixed with temperatures fluctuating between mild and cold but I haven’t noticed any more snow in the forecasts.

The new format is really nice! So clean. The new title is more accurate. But I do like so much to read about the weather. What I really like is the size of the photos and the ease of reading the text. I don’t have to enlarge the view (zoom in). Poor eyesight. You must have spent hours on it. I think it was well worth it.

Glad you like the new layout Jane. I always thought it was it was a pain in blogger having to do extra clicks to get to a decent size image. It was also a bit limiting on the weather images I could post due to limits with blogger. YouTube was a great help in setting it all up.
