Easter Chicks

Easter is a sign of new life at one time this was equally true on our site. Chicks were hatching and those who were very lucky actually get to hold a nearly brand new chick. The chicks in these photos were a week old and were reared in an incubator.

After the eggs were laid they were placed into an incubator. Eggs and chicks stayed in the incubator for 21 days and then had their first taste of the outside world and their adoring public. They then stayed snug at night with their new mum - a mop head.

No-one knows at this stage could tell whether they were little boys or girls - apparently you have to wait until they grow their combs.

The black chick is a Black Orpington.

The little yellow one is a Brahma Buff.

Little hands hold their first real life chick. Cuddles were not just for little hands though - I had my share but obviously not when taking the photographs!
