Creating a new raspberry bed

We decided to locate our new raspberry bed behind our compost bins.

 

The bed was cleared of as many weed roots as possible and weed control fabric was laid.

 

 

The fabric was covered with wood chippings and black plastic was fastened to the bottom of the compost bays to try to prevent weeds and slugs creeping through.

 

A channel was then cut in the weed control fabric and the cut ends folded under to prevent fraying.

 

 

A row of tree stakes were hammered into the ground and holes drilled through to allow wires to be threaded through.

 

 

A trench was dug in the channel and 6X fertiliser was applied to the soil.

 

 

The new canes were then spaced out and planted in the trench.

 

 

As the canes grow they will be tied in to the wires.
