This diary is a summary of our garden activities. The links are to blog posts that often give more detail.

1 - 5 May

 

Lots of shopping - bought a jasmine and calibrachoa for greenhouse.

Bought trailing plants mecardonia and pericallis

Bought some alpines for small pebble garden arenaria, armeria, delosperma, hypsela, leptinella.

Bought four oesteospernum and a canna

eEt up frost protection for potatoes, strawberries and kiwi Issai

Planted anemone de Caen from pots to new garden bed

Planted new clematis

Transferred skimmia growing in a pot to the garden

Sank pots in between snowdrops and bluebells to provide space for bulbs later

6 - 12 May

 

More shopping - bought for new bed in the garden, two lupins, astrantia, astilbe  and leucanthemum

Planted above in the garden and planted alpines

Sweet peas and leeks transferred to cold frame

Cut back the medlar

Annual flower bed beginning to flower

Removed half of overwintered brassicas and cleared the bed

Busy bee

Dashing between showers

Stuff stopped growing

Cold daytime May day

13 - 19 May

 

 

Lots of seed sowing and pricking out in the greenhouse

Finished planting strawberry bed

Sowed carrot and parsnip seeds/

Prepared most beds for planting

Planted sweet peas

Cold nights have it

Running out of space

Things are hotting up - no not the weather

20 - 26 May

 

 

Sowed first lot of hardy annuals

Sowed second batch of peas

Sowed sugar snap peas.

Planted leeks

Planted second lot of brassicas

Back to watering duties

Bought and planted more perennials in new crab apple bed

Repotted banana which was infested by ants

Lots of pricking out and tidying up the greenhouses

Planted out garden greenhouse tomatoes

Picked first flowers from annuals sown last September

Harvested first lot of salads from cold frame area.

27 - 31 May

 

Bought three more perennials for front garden and allotment

Harvested first two strawberries

Harvesting salads

Watering and weeding on allotment

Planted tomatoes in plot greenhouse

Planted sweet peas in a tub in the garden

Chives are flowering and being browsed by bees

Jazzy potatoes looking sad.

Roses blooming - tried to train Etoile d'Hollande

Clematis flowering

That was a cold one - almost a freeze
