This diary is a summary of our garden activities. The links are to blog posts that often give more detail.

1 - 7 July

 

Cleared more of the overgrown shrub border

Cut back the garrya

Rejuvenated the bird bath bed

Picked first cherries, black raspberries, blueberries, broad beans and gooseberries

Set out containers on the old strawberry bed

Sowed spring onions, spinach, radishes and salad leaves in the containers and home salad bar.

Tomatoes in grow bags showing symptoms of weed killer contamination of the compost.

Emailed manufacturers of both grow bags and weedkiller - a sample for testing has been sent off to the compost company,

Lots of tidying in the garden and on the allotment

Planted new astilbes - one in bird bath bed and another in new flower bed

Planted impatiens and pansies in bird bath bed

Planted purple sprouting broccoli and Cendis cabbage

Sowed coriander in trough

Cut runners from strawberries

Picked first peas and broad beans

Dug first root of Premiere potatoes

Lovely new hunting ground

Still tidying and watering

Very hot and then very wet and also windy so everything is being battered.
