1 - 4 August

 

Lots of showers caught us out at the allotment.

Planted dwarf French beans in the bed vacated by early potatoes.

Lifted trial varieties of potatoes, Elfe, Premiere, Jazzy, British Queen, Rudolf and Apache

Lifted half of Rocket potatoes

Picked first climbing French beans - Goldfield

Picked first blackberries and lots of blueberries

Continued picking blackcurrants

Enforced absence continues

Very showery and windy - cardoon has been flattened

Dug Winston and Vivaldi potatoes

Cut back and tied in summer raspberries

Gale force winds devastated cardoon and blew down apple tree in the garden

Pruned and tied in Glencoe raspberry

Lifted autumn and spring planted onions

Spring planted onions set out to dry

Lots of harvesting

Lifted Nadine, Osprey and Rocket potatoes

Cleared spent broad beans

19 - 25 August

Hot and sunny at the end of the week

Lifted more potatoes

Planted All Year Round cauliflowers

Small white caterpillars removed

Harvested and froze coriander

Sowed more spring onions, coriander and spinach

Started bean test on compost

Tidied strawberries - cut off runners etc

Bottoms up

All change

Summer returns - too hot for lifting potatoes

26 - 31 August

 

Very hot week

Removed some crops that that had finished

Trimmed the apple hedge

Weekend in Norfolk

Visited the Sandringham estate
