The Wensleydale Railway is a heritage railway in North Yorkshire, England. The 40 mile Wensleydale railway was built in stages during the 19th century and connected two main lines: the East Coast main line at Northallerton and the Settle-Carlisle line at Garsdale. It closed to passenger services in stages during the 20th century (1950s-60s) and is re-opening in stages in the 21st century.

The Wensleydale Railway runs for 22 miles from Northallerton on the East Coast Main Line to Redmire in the heart of Wensleydale. On its way from the flat Vale of York to the upland splendour of the famous Yorkshire Dales, the line passes through market towns and small villages, through woodlands and farmland.

Much of the day-to-day work of running the Wensleydale Railway is carried out by teams of fully trained volunteers who work under the supervision of specialists. Roles range from track inspection to working in our office, shops, buffet coach and teabar. Volunteers also play an important role on Special Event days.
