A proper wet day at last

I had been in the process of writing a blog post saying how October was following a pattern similar to the rest of the year with temperatures a little above average and rainfall a little below average. Then everything changed. This was the forecast for Thursday.

It was already raining when I looked at the forecast. The rainfall in the forecast totals 43.63mm (1.72in).

We’ve had to wait a long time for what I’d term a proper wet day. Until today, Thursday 20th October 2022, the last time we had more than 10mm of rainfall in one day was 20th February 2022 when we had 21.2mm or 0.83in. The weather forecast for the day promised lots of rain and I decided to hold back on my original blog post.

Rainfall & Temperature Records for 2022-10-20

As you can see from the above chart, it rained for most of the day. We didn’t get near to that figure of 43.0mm (1.69in) but we did get 21.6mm (0.85in) making it the wettest day this year and it just made it into equal twentieth place in the top twenty wettest days since 2010.

It seems like a long time since we put off an allotment visit because of any wet weather.

At least the ground shouldn’t be too hard to dig now through lack of rain. The forecast is for more rain over the coming week.
