First sowings of the season. We are trying red onions from seed as we’ve had no success with sets. One tray of Red Baron sown in modules.
First tray of broad beans De Monica sown with 2 seeds in each of 18 modules.

Began doing some tidying up in the greenhouse. Our over wintering sweet peas were trimmed back.
Our agapanthus had last year’s dead flower stems removed.
Two more of our free raspberry canes from Thompson and Morgan have started to shoot.
In the garden, Sue tidied up some of the borders removing all the dead foliage from last year.

I managed to get the lawns cut for the first time this year.
The pond had been covered with a large net after a heron visited the other week. It was trailing in the water and needed to be removed. Some long strings were crisscrossed over the pond to prevent any further attacks.
Sue cut back all the ferns next to the summerhouse.

Our first visit to the plot in about 6 weeks. We had a look around and did a short video plot tour as well as harvesting all the remaining parsnips and digging up some more leeks.

Early brassica collection arrived from DT Browns and the young plants were potted on and left in the greenhouse. Once they recover from their journey they will be moved to the cold frame to grow on.

We visited the allotment and started to do a little bit of tidying up. The weather was nice and sunny although there was a brisk coolish breeze. We concentrated on plot 42. The grass paths were cut and the roses and black elder were cut back.

Our home compost bin was emptied and once again produced some good compost. It was all spread out amongst the perennials in the medlar bed.

Seed sowings at home in the greenhouse.
In the afternoon we visited the plot. The grass paths on plots 28,29,30 and 41 were all strimmed for the first time. Two of our buddleias were cut back.
Sue weeded and cleared around our new strawberry bed on plot 42. Our plan is to fertilise around the plants at a later date. Some runners which had grown over winter were transplanted into the vacant patch.

Another mild spring day. Carrots and coleus were sown in the morning.
We had an aborted trip to the plot in the afternoon. Smoke from the industrial units was billowing over our plots so we decided to leave. At home, we planted up our old recycling crates with potatoes, our raspberry canes were moved out of the greenhouse and Sue cut back the perennial plants that have over wintered in the greenhouse.
