For several years now we have sown our carrots through weed control fabric. The main problem we find with using weed control fabric is that the cut edges fray very badly leaving strands of weed control fabric in the soil. Last year I experimented by cutting the ends of the fabric with a small kitchen flame gun. It worked really well and this year we used the technique to cut the weed control fabric for our carrots.

It was school holidays when we visited Nostell Priory this week so it was busy. Once out into the meadows it was much quieter and we could let Ruby off the lead to chase her ball. However, Ruby headed off in the wrong direction and we both had a bit of a struggle to find the ball. The bluebells were out as we walked through the woods. It might be next week when they are at their best.

We decided on an evening plot tour which wasn’t the easiest to film with the sun low in the sky. Covers our early brassicas, fruit trees, and bushes in flower, broad beans, rhubarb, and autumn sown onions and garlic.
