Warmest December day

Warmest December day

Thursday turned out to be our mildest December day since I started keeping records in 2010. The afternoon temperature reached 16.6°C (61.9°F) breaking the record of 15.8°C (60.4°F) set back on 19 December 2015.

Temperature record for 30 December 2021

The reason for the unseasonably mild temperature was due to the direction of the wind. The high and low pressure weather systems were aligned in such a manner that we had a strong south westerly breeze bringing warm air up from a long way to the south. The source of the wind was originating off the coast of Africa as the chart from earth.nullschool.net shows.

I replenished our carrot stocks from the greenhouse in the afternoon and the temperature in there was a very pleasant 20.9°C or 69.6°F. Ignore the minimum temperature set on the thermometer as that’s this December’s lowest greenhouse temperature. I’ll reset the thermometer on the first day of the month.

The breezy conditions even brought us a little bit of sunshine which we’ve been missing for days now. However, it also brought us some showers but it was much better than the dull dreary conditions of the last couple of weeks. The forecast is for the milder conditions to last into the first day of the new year with the possibility of a new highest temperature being set for New Years Day.
