Double birthday

Last week, we celebrated two birthdays. Martyn’s was on Wednesday, and on Thursday, it was Ruby’s sixth birthday. How time flies.ย  Martyn’s birthday marked several multiples of six and some.

It would take several posts to create a photo history for Martyn but Ruby’s is more manageable, so here goes.

For our first meeting with Ruby, we travelled down to Bristol.ย  Ruby would have been about four weeks old. She was one of five puppies – four girls and a boy. Four were phantoms like Ruby and took after their mum – Isla. One was a red puppy taking after – Reuben their dad.

We knew that Ruby looked very much like her mum but until we looked back on these photos we hadn’t realised that she had grown into a replica of Isla.

Four weeks later, on 4 March, we were back in Bristol to bring her back to her new home. At first, she was rather bewildered and wasn’t sure what was happening.

We took her shopping to buy her first harness.

The 23 March marked our first lockdown. Ruby had received her first vaccination but couldn’t mix with other dogs or be taken for walks until after her second vaccination. This meant our socialisation plans were snookered. Ruby has never really got over her wariness of people that she doesn’t know or other dogs, especially when they run up and invade her personal space.

We were worried that lockdown would prevent her from having her second vaccination but the vet said that it was classed as essential. It was arranged that on arrival we would ring reception and the vet would come to collect Ruby from the porch. We then waited in the car until we received a call to say we could collect Ruby from the porch

During lockdown Ruby started to look like a ball of fluff asย  the groomer couldn’t visit. In the end, it was arranged that we would take Ruby to the groomer’s home and pop her in the garden in her carrying crate for the groomer to pick up and take inside. We then received a call whenย  Ruby was ready and the whole process was repeated in reverse.

The poor little pup must have wondered what was going on.

Can’t believe Ruby is six now. How time flies, I still think of her as a puppy.

Ruby still thinks that she is a puppy Margaret

Happy Birthday to both Martyn and Ruby, and I’m sure you celebrated both of them in style!

Where on earth have the last 6 years gone? in a blink of an eye that is for sure.

      It certainly has flown, Debbie
