2023–01-19 Ruby’s walks and a bad tempered swan
Even though it was a cold week we ventured out on walks with Ruby. At Rothwell park, a blockage in the beck is resulting in a very high water level. On our walk at Nostell Priory, we fed the swans and ducks. One swan in particular seems to enjoy scragging ducks by the neck if they get too close. The ducks seem okay once they’ve been released.

Nothing doing at the allotment this week
It’s been a cold and frosty week so we haven’t been to the allotment. I did manage to collect our seed potatoes from the garden centre as well as moving our pots containing spring bulbs onto the patio. The birds were grateful for having the feeders filled up with sunflower hearts.

More parsnips and leeks and a bit of tidying up
After a miserable cold wet week, we decided on a quick visit to the allotment to harvest a few vegetables. The gale force winds through the week had dislodged some of the environmesh so we decided to remove most of it all together.

First walks of 2023
The weather has not been very good so we haven’t visited the allotment yet this year. We have managed to get out walking with Ruby though.

Feeding frenzy – swans and ducks at Nostell Priory
The swans and ducks at Nostell Priory have given us lots of photo opportunities on our visits so we thought it was about time we started to repay them. We bought some “proper’ food for swans and ducks and headed off to Nostell for a walk with Ruby and to see if the wildlife would like our food choice.
