Bleak mid winter

Bleak mid winter

I’ve seen reports that the higher parts of Yorkshire had snow on Christmas Day. It wasn’t the case for us. We had a dull wet day continuing the trend of the last couple of weeks. I think it’s now 12 days since we last saw any glimpse of sunshine. We have a weekly walk around Nostell Priory with Ruby and on the last couple of visits it’s been misty. To make matters worse on our visit last week it decided to pour with rain before we finished our walk.

Nostell Priory (23 December 2021)

Everything outside is permanently wet even though it’s not raining all the time. Without any brighter weather nothing has a chance to dry out.

There’s not much greenery in the garden. Most of our main border needs cutting back but it’s a job we leave until spring.

I think it’s a good time to sit down with some seed catalogues and sort out our flower and vegetable seeds for next year. Hopefully, it won’t be too much longer before we see a little bit of sunshine.
