Today was warmer than any day in July or August as the afternoon temperature reached 28.4°C and we need to go back to June 27th when the temperature reached for us a staggering 31.6°C for a hotter day.
It was dawn to dusk sunshine with clear blue skies all day long. Our medlars are still to be harvested and must be enjoying this spell of hot sunny weather. Will this spell last into tomorrow and set some high temperature records for October? The forecaster seem to think it’s possible.

September ends in another scorcher
Today was another scorching day with the temperature reaching 28.2°C. It was blue sky all day once again, absolutely unexpected weather for the end of September especially after our poor summer.
Our first batch of autumn planting onions arrived from Dobies Seeds today. These are Dobies Autumn Champion and Senshyu Yellow. We grew these two varieties last year and they cropped pretty well even though we had a very harsh winter. They kept us well supplied with onions through summer filling the gap between the end of last year’s stored main crop and this year’s harvest. Some rain would now be nice otherwise this will be another crop requiring watering to add to our brassica crops when the sets are planted next week.
