Hot on the heels of the mildest December day I’ve recorded comes the mildest January day. New Year’s Day became the warmest January day of the last 10 years.

The 30 December 2021 became our mildest December day with the temperature of 16.6°C replacing the previous highest of 15.8°C (60.4°F) set on 07 December 2016. New Year’s Day became our mildest January day with 14.9°C (58.8°F) replacing the previous record of 14.7°C (58.5°F) set on 24 January 2016.
To be honest the very mild spell has made a welcome break in the middle of winter. Usually, when we get a mild spell of weather in winter it’s accompanied by dull wet weather making the temperature a bit irrelevant. On this occasion, though we’ve had some pleasant sunshine along with the mild temperatures making for good conditions to take Ruby out for a walk.
It’s cold but sunny today
After a frosty start.
Happy new year Mal.
Temperature has dropped a bit here as well. Temperature this morning down to 0.2°C at 08:00. Mild spell over.
Warmest wishes for the new year.
There’s quite a dip tonight and the gritters are out and about in Edinburgh!
