I saw reports on social media that Saturday was the warmest day of the year in the UK. That wasn’t the case for us as the temperature refused to reach 15.0°C or 59.0°F.
On New Year’s Day, the temperature reached 14.9°C and so far by the 20th March that temperature hasn’t been exceeded, although it has been equalled on several occasions. The forecast is for the spell of dry sunny weather, we have been experiencing over the last few days, to continue through next week with temperatures gradually increasing so that stubborn 15.0°C barrier should be broken. It’s not that unusual for us not to have had a higher temperature by this time in March.
We did manage a trip to the allotment on Saturday and started doing some tidying up on plot 42. The grass was in need of cutting and the roses and black elder in the perennial bed needed pruning.
It’s important that the black elder is cut back severely otherwise it shades the beds growing vegetables on plot 42.
Hopefully, if the forecast is correct and the weather stays sunny and dry for the next week I’ll be able to get the rest of the grass cut.
