When we think of winter we often think of snowy landscapes even though we usually
don’t have lots of snow during the winter months. Occasionally we wake up to a hoar
frost. Hoar frost is produced when on clear frosty nights ice crystals form on plants
and trees. This often happens when there is an overnight mist during freezing conditions.
The coating of ice covering the landscape creates a fairytale scene. The photos above
were taken in January 2013 near Middlestown in West Yorkshire.
