Also called Mothering Sunday which in the Christian religion throughout Europe is the day to honour the Virgin Mary and the ‘mother church’. A special church service is held on Mothers’ day when children are often given a small bunch of daffodils to present to their mothers. It falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent.
In other countries the origins of Mothers’ Day are different but generally nowadays this is the day when we give thanks to our own mothers for always being there for us and for all that they do for us. Traditionally mothers are presented with a card and a gift, flowers or chocolates.
