The doves in these photos are collared doves which are regular visitors to my garden.
They take their name from the dark coloured ring around their neck. They look to
be very gentle birds and will delicately peck at their food. Although we have quite
a few visiting our garden we have seldom seen them fighting or even squabbling over
food.
The first collared doves arrived in Britain during the early 1950’s but have very
successfully established themselves as one of our most common birds.
Collared doves may provide you with and early morning wake up call - if you hear
coo - coo - coo it is a collared dove ready to start its day.
