We spotted our first siskin  in our garden on Saturday 26th February 2011. We almost mistook it for a greenfinch but as it perched alongside a goldfinch on our niger seed feeder it was obviously smaller than a greenfinch.

After feeding on niger seed it took a fancy to sunflower hearts.

After a while it was clear we had two males and two females. One of the males is ringed.

The female siskin is not as colourful as the male so at a distance could be mistaken for a sparrow.
