Carrot seeds must be planted straight into the ground. The roots do not form correctly if they are first grown in trays or pots and then planted out.
If the soil is heavy then it is best to sow the seeds in a shallow trench of compost. This way the seeds have a better chance of germinating and the young seedling can get off to a good start.
Carrot seeds need to be sown about one centimetre deep.
