Most peas need ‘podding’ before they are eaten. We eat the seed of the pea plant.
The seeds of purple podded peas are green too – although they are a slightly lighter green.
There are also varieties of peas where we eat the whole pea pod before the seeds are fully developed. These are called sugar snap or mangetout peas. Mangetout means ‘eat all’ in French.
