When the danger of frost has passed, young French bean plants, raised in the pots are then planted in the ground.
Before moving into the ground young plants must spend a little time in a cold frame so that they ‘get used’ to life outdoors. This is called hardening off. If young bean plants are taken straight from a greenhouse and planted outdoors, the shock of the colder temperature will prevent them from growing and they may die.
