Spring onions are grown from seed that can be sown directly into the ground.


First make a shallow trench called a drill. (You could make this by dragging a stick across the soil). Carefully sprinkle the seeds into the drill. Then cover and water them. In the photo above, because the soil is very rough the seeds are being sown in a small trench of compost to give them a better start in life. If you sow a few spring onion seeds every three weeks you will be able to pick a few throughout the season.
