We’ve had a lovely few days weather wise for the middle of April. It’s given us chance to do some serious gardening but that leaves much less time for blogging. Of course, it’s no surprise that the lovely weather has resulted in a new warmest day of the year. On Saturday the temperature reached 22.1\u00b0C or 71.8\u00b0F.<\/p>

According to the forecast Easter Sunday has seen an end to the warm spell with temperatures returning to normal on Easter Monday. Still, it’s unusual to have any good weather over a Bank Holiday.<\/p>

We’ve been making the most of the good weather at the allotment. Not only have the temperatures been on the mild side, we’ve also had very little rain over the last couple of weeks so the ground at the allotment is in good condition for rotovating. Some beds needed clearing of their winter covering of weed control fabric before the rotovator could be put to work. Other beds that had been uncovered over winter needed a little bit of weeding first.<\/p>

You can just about make out the beds that had been dug over in the photo above by the darker damp soil. At home, our early brassica plants from DT Browns had grown well in the cold frame and were ready for planting out so this was our first task.<\/p>

There’s not a lot to show for our other efforts. We’ve planted more potatoes and our first bed of onions and shallots has been completed. We need to prepare a bed for another batch of onions and garlic.<\/p>

Along with getting more seeds sown in the greenhouse at home, I reckon we’ve made good progress over the last week or so.
