I don’t really have much to report for the week.<\/p>

We didn’t need any vegetables from the plot so no visit was required. The soil condition now precludes any work on the beds.<\/p>

At the weekend, the weather took a turn for the worse, with strong winds and rain, brought our way by storm Daragh. The best course of action was to hunker down indoors and keep warm and dry. It must have been a nightmare for homeless people with no option other than to sleep on the streets.<\/p>

The storms have come at a bad time for those who have put Christmas trees up outdoors.<\/p>

The display below was outside of the cafe in the local park.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At Nostell, quite a few Christmas trees have been set out. Larger specimens have been set up in front of the stable block.<\/p>

\"\"Alongside the pathway are several smaller trees that Ruby couldn’t resist investigating.<\/p>

I wonder whether the trees will still be standing after the gales. It will also be a nervous time when we make our next visit to the allotment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

As we are avoiding Temple Newsam until all the barriers are removed, more walks were at Nostell.<\/p>

The rain is turning many paths to mud so muddy paws are the order of the day now. Ruby doesn’t care but we have a towel on hand to clean her paws before she is allowed on the car seat.<\/p>

The winter lakes are starting to form.<\/p>

\"\"The main lake was ice-free last week.<\/p>

The water birds were still happy to see us approaching with our bag of food.<\/p>

The lake may look devoid of birds but once they spot us at the edge of the lake they noisily swim in from all directions.<\/p>

\"\"<\/p>

I mentioned in an earlier post that just one juvenile swan remained on the lake but I was wrong as recently there have been two. At present the adults tolerate them.<\/p>

Finally one or two of last week’s meals.<\/p>

I used some of our leeks along with onion, carrot and potato in a chicken casserole.<\/p>

Another onion was used in a turkey hotpot.<\/a> I also added some of our frozen peas and green beans to the recipe.<\/p>

\"\"<\/p>

More green beans were used in a vegetable curry<\/a> along with some onion, carrot and frozen cauliflower.<\/p>
