February was a wet and windy month, but as we approach the middle of March the weather is much improved. So far no more storms and far less rain. You can see on the chart below that we’ve had a number of rain free days this month and the temperature is beginning to lift up a little bit too. All making it feel a bit more spring like.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The highest temperature so far this March has been 14.9\u00b0C which equals the highest temperature of the year so far. Rather surprisingly it’s equal with New Year’s Day when the same temperature was recorded. I’m sure it will not be long now before we have a new highest temperature of the year.<\/p>

Although we haven’t had much rain this month, the lake which forms in winter at Nostell Priory isn’t showing any signs of disappearing.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

However, at the allotment things are looking much better. On Sunday we made our first visit to the allotment since the end of January. The poor February weather and a few medical issues were to blame for our lack of visits. The beds that were dug over last autumn look to be drying out well and hopefully they won’t require a great deal of work to get them into a suitable state for sowing seeds and planting up.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Having not visited for a good few weeks, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there hadn’t been a great deal of weed growth. It looks like the beds will require raking to break up the top of the soil and will then be fit for planting. Fingers crossed that we don’t get lots of rain.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We dug up the last of our parsnips and a few more leeks. The parsnips were starting to grow so needed digging up. We’ve had a really good crop from last year’s sowing. There’s not much greenery this early on at the allotment but looking at our early rhubarb we might soon be picking a few stems.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
