We’ve had plenty more rain through the first week of April. The amount so far is 25mm or around 1″ and about half a month’s rainfall. That wouldn’t normally be too much of a problem, but as the ground was already well saturated at the end of March, more rainfall hasn’t helped any drying out of the ground at the allotment.<\/p>

Spot the odd day without rain over the last 4 weeks.<\/p>

Over the weekend we’ve been battered by gale force winds too. In our home greenhouse, one of the polycarbonate sheets had been blown out. It’s now re-fitted and hopefully will stay in place.<\/p>

With all the rain grass paths are turning to mud and we are walking on them as little as possible.<\/p>

\"\"At the allotment, we only have a couple more beds ready for planting. One is ready for more potatoes and one will be used for some early brassicas. Before we can plant anything else some beds will need to be tilled, which considering the state of the beds at the moment is out of the question.<\/p>

We require better weather to dry out the ground, unfortunately, that isn’t in the forecast.<\/p>

It appears we might get a reasonably dry weekend but later more rain is in the forecast.<\/p>

If we don’t get much of a change in the weather soon sowing and planting are going to be delayed considerably but I’ve learnt the hard way that cultivating the beds when they are too wet leads to unworkable soil when it dries out. So the only option seems to be to delay cultivating and hope the weather changes for the better soon.
