Uncovering garlic and winter onions – Lifting leeks \u201cBatter\u201d<\/h3>

We noticed on our last visit to the allotment that our garlic and winter onions needed the environmesh removing. The sets had been covered to prevent the onions and garlic from being pulled out of the ground by birds or other animals. We also decided to lift a few more leeks. We decided to lift a new variety to us called Batter. This particular variety has produced some good sized leeks but we lost quite a few plants in the hot dry summer weather.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

A rare visit to the allotment to harvest some vegetables<\/h3>

This is our first visit to the plot in November. We\u2019d run out of fresh vegetables so we needed a visit to see what we could find. Managed to dig up some leeks and found a purple cauliflower which was a bit of a treat. I dug up a couple of cabbages to take home roots still attached.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Ruby keeps dry before a run at Nostell Priory<\/h3>

Ruby\u2019s routine is a trip outside first thing in the morning to do whatever she has to do. Unless it\u2019s raining and then she\u2019ll decide to hang on and hope that the weather will improve. However, at Nostell Priory she\u2019s straight out of the car and ready for a walk or run whatever the weather.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Rodent Wars<\/h3>

After mice had eaten our first sowing of sweet pea seeds I\u2019d covered the resown seeds with plastic covers. I checked the seeds a couple of days ago and all the sweet peas had germinated and were touching the tops of the plastic covers. At this stage, I decided it would be safe to remove the covers. I was wrong.<\/p><\/div>
