Lifting an exceptionally good crop of carrots<\/h4>

I wasn\u2019t expecting much of a crop from these carrots but I was well chuffed with the crop.<\/p><\/div>

Ruby\u2018s day out to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park<\/h4>

At the end of September the North Yorkshire Moors Railway hold their annual steam gala. We decided to visit the North Yorkshire Moors to view and photograph the trains and take Ruby on a few walks on the moors.<\/p><\/div>

Lifting and storing carrots over winter<\/h4>

I lifted our first batch of maincrop carrots. The variety is Flakkee. They\u2019ve done much better than I expected because I didn\u2019t give them much water through the summer. They will be stored in dry compost in crates in our home greenhouse for use over winter.<\/p>

Strawberry bed – autumn treatment<\/h4>

This is the first time in several years that we\u2019ve planted up our strawberry bed without planting the strawberries through weed control fabric. We\u2019ve found through experience that after a few years the soil in the bed becomes very compacted and the strawberry plants struggle to survive. So we planted our strawberry bed this year without weed control fabric. We\u2019ve kept the soil hoed all summer and now the plants have finished producing we thought we\u2019d spend some time preparing the bed for winter.<\/p>

Will it work? Storing beetroot for winter<\/h4>

Last year we successfully stored carrots in crates of old dry compost in our home greenhouse. This year we are going to see if the same method will work for beetroot.<\/span><\/p>

Just enough rain…<\/h4>

A few heavy but short lived showers have converted a couple of beds from rock hard ground into easily digable beds. It’s all about getting as ready as possible for next year for the next couple of months before any really bad winter weather sets in.<\/p>

09 September 2022<\/h3>

Last potato reveal of the year<\/h4>

When we\u2019d finished planting all our maincrop potatoes we had a few tubers of each variety left. We had enough to plant up a small bed. I\u2019d left this bed until now hoping that some rain would soften up the ground making the potatoes easier to lift. Turns out I was wrong.<\/p>

Clips of Nostell Priory and Ruby<\/h4>

A few clips from this week\u2019s trip to Nostell Priory. We didn\u2019t see the swans or cygnets but Ruby was fascinated by the cows. She\u2019s seen them before but not quite as close. There\u2019s only a 3 wire electric fence keeping the cows in the field. Of course, Ruby doesn\u2019t know that.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Some Ruby clips having her teeth cleaned being groomed a tired Ruby after a long day<\/h4><\/div>

Just a few odd clips of Ruby supposedly having her teeth brushed, being groomed and in her favourite spot on the sofa. Ruby had been chasing a ball in the field at Nostell Priory, then had a walk there as well as having an afternoon walk at Wentworth castle.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
