We follow a YouTube channel created by Bill and Val following their allotment growing in the south of the Uk. At the beginning of this year they sent me some Pongo beans to try. That was all I was expecting but to my surprise I got some other heritage seed varieties to try. Two of these varieties were peas. These were sown in cells of compost and carefully grown on at home. 20 May 2022<\/strong><\/h3>

On our last visit to Nostell Priory we noticed that the swans had left their nest but we didn\u2019t see any cygnets. We thought that perhaps they hadn\u2019t managed to raise a brood this year. However, on our visit this week we were hopeful that we might be lucky enough to see some cygnets as we hadn\u2019t entirely given up hope that they\u2019d failed to produce some youngsters this year. As we approached the lake we could see the swans. We could also see some youngsters but not make out how many there were. The heron and cormorant were still hanging about on the lake too. Our walk took us through the meadow which is growing quickly now. At the top point of the meadow we seemed to have Nostell Priory to ourselves.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A look around all five plots. Our first roses have come into flower along with our irises. It\u2019s still early in our growing season but our plot is beginning to fill up. The next few weeks will hopefully see the gaps filled in.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

17 May 2022<\/strong><\/h3>

It\u2019s the time of year for spotting ducklings and cygnets at Nostell Priory. Last year we only saw some cygnets but strangely no ducklings. We thought it was a little bit odd as there are lots of ducks on the lake. This year we\u2019ve spotted some ducklings over the last couple of weeks but no cygnets. It\u2019s the first time we\u2019ve spotted a cormorant on the lake although the heron is a regular visitor.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

For the last few years, I have tried to keep our grapevine more restricted in our home greenhouse. I haven\u2019t been very successful and the vine takes over much of the greenhouse blocking out light to our tomato plants. Last year the vine didn\u2019t produce any fruit so this year I decided to cut it down to hopefully give our tomatoes a bit more light.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
