Another excellent crop of carrots- Romance, Sweet Candle & Flakkee<\/h3>

This bed of carrots was sown in the middle of May as our main carrot bed. I didn\u2019t think our carrots would do very well this year, as the ground they were planted in was firm and dry when they were sown. Our reserve bed of carrots, which I lifted a few days ago, proved that this wasn\u2019t the case. I was hoping our main bed would produce a good crop too.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A late September visit to Kedleston Hall where Ruby met some sheep<\/h3>

A trip to Kedleston Hall back in late September. After a look around the gardens at the back of the Hall we set off on the long walk. It was the first time we\u2019d taken Ruby on a walk through a field with sheep in.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Best ever progress clearing beds? – A reminder of progress for spring 2026<\/h3>

I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever made such good progress clearing beds ready for next season. I never remember exactly how the beds were left at the end of this season, when we begin at the allotment next spring. Autumn colours at Clumber Park plus egret, cormorants, grebe and of course Ruby<\/h3>

On a gloomy October day, we decided on a visit to Clumber Park. We thought that the trees would now be showing their autumn colours. Around the lake, there was a lot of wildlife on display, but most of it was difficult to capture on video as it was too far away or hiding behind tree branches.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

An autumn walk with Ruby at Nostell Priory<\/h3>

The trees are now in their full autumn colours at Nostell Priory. However, Ruby isn\u2019t bothered about the autumn colours she just wants a good walk and a game.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Almost ready for winter – mid October\u2019s aerial update<\/h3>

We\u2019ve made great progress over the last few weeks in getting the allotment tidied up and ready for winter. Almost all the beds have been dug over, and I\u2019ve made a start covering some beds with weed control fabric to stop any weeds growing during winter. We have a few crops to harvest as we need them through winter. These are sprouts, red cabbage, and leeks.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
