Lots more bluebells at Nostell Priory<\/h3>

We went in search of more bluebells on our walk at Nostell Priory this week. As we walked through the woodland it was clear that lots of new bushes and trees had been planted and were all protected with plastic collars. There were lots of bluebells to see but not as many as at Temple Newsam.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A busy weekend on the plot – planting brassicas, onions and broad beans<\/h3>

We spent 3 afternoons at the plot this week. Things are beginning to dry out but we concentrated our efforts on the driest side of the plot. We’ve now planted all our potatoes. Our early brassicas were planted along with more onions, shallots and garlic.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our 7.5km trek around the lake at Clumber Park with Ruby<\/h3>

We had never attempted to walk around the lake at Clumber Park. We hadn\u2019t checked to see if it was even possible. Having got halfway round we decided to follow the signs to Hardwick village and decide when we got there whether we could walk around the lake or turn around and walk back the way we had come. Luckily we found we could walk around the lake as we had hoped. Ruby didn\u2019t mind the long walk at all.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Rhododendron season approaches & Ruby meets some rare breed pigs<\/h3>

The rhododendrons at Temple Newsam are beginning to come into flower. This week the plants in the favourable sheltered spots are in flower but there looks to be lots of flowers to come out over the next few weeks. As we were heading back to the car we passed the rare breed pigs. I think there are 3 rare breeds on the farm Middle White, Tamworth and British Saddleback. Ruby wasn’t too keen on any of them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Working at home and on the allotment<\/h3>

A couple of dry days gave us a chance to do some tidying up of our borders in the garden at home as well as getting some jobs done at the allotment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Nostell Priory is greening up plus Ruby, swans, church bells & early bluebells<\/h3>

It was another wet and windy walk at Nostell Priory this week. There are signs that the trees are starting to green up and the bluebells are beginning to bloom. It\u2019s possible to make out the eggs in the swan’s nest. We think that there are 7 eggs visible.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How are winter onions planted last September doing<\/h3>

We had a quick check this week to see how our winter onions were doing. They are doing well but won’t be ready to harvest for a few months yet. They had a quick weed whilst the cover was off to tidy up the edges of the bed. It’s hard to believe that when they were planted last September we had to water the ground as it was so dry. At the moment we cannot get two dry days in a row.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
