01 April 2024<\/h3>

First early potatoes are in plus raspberries move in and plenty of weeding and tilling<\/h3>

We decided to risk planting our early potatoes. It\u2019s certainly around our usual planting time but the ground is on the wet side due to the never ending showers. A couple of beds were prepared for planting but some were certainly too wet to work on. The forecast is for another week of showers so we thought we\u2019d better make use of a dry afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Another wet day for Ruby\u2019s walk but there are some signs spring is on the way.<\/h3>

It was another wet day when we took Ruby for a walk at Temple Newsam. Ruby doesn\u2019t mind the rain if she\u2019s getting a walk. There are signs that spring is gradually arriving. The daffodils were in full display and some trees had begun to flower. The grass is very wet and there\u2019s plenty of mud about which Ruby is normally good at avoiding.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Not much going on at the allotment but lots in our home greenhouse<\/h3>

Raspberry bed dug – strawberry beds tidied & a bonfire plus some plot wildlife<\/h3>

A decent afternoon so we decided to visit the allotment. After some morning showers, I was hoping it would stay dry so I could burn some rubbish. Before starting my fire I decided to do more work on the raspberry bed refurb by digging it over. Sue tidied up the strawberry beds removing lots of dead leaves and other debris. Sue collected lots of rubbish from around the plot so we could get it all burnt in one large bonfire.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

18 March 2024<\/h3>

Raspberry bed refurb & pruning gooseberries<\/h3>

It\u2019s still too wet to do any soil preparation at the allotment after overnight rain on Saturday. However, there are plenty of other jobs to be done. I decided to start refurbishing one of our raspberry beds. The raspberries have become infested with bindweed and wick grass. It\u2019s going to be a long job. Sue cut back our Old Gold raspberries and pruned a couple of our gooseberries as well as fitting in a bit of weeding.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Ruby\u2019s walk by the lake at Nostell Priory<\/h3>

Allotment update from the walled garden at Temple Newsam<\/h3>
