26 February 2022<\/h3>

Is it too early to chit our potatoes?<\/h3>

Our seed potatoes stored in the garage since the beginning of January are starting to sprout. They need more light to grow strong healthy shoots which means moving them into the greenhouse. There\u2019s some cold weather in the forecast so I\u2019m hoping it isn\u2019t too early to move them.<\/p>

19 February 2022<\/h3>

Storm Otto and more tidying up<\/h3>

This was our first visit to the plot following storm Otto. We\u2019d suffered no damage at home from the gale force winds but the allotments always seem to get more damage than we do at home. As it turned out we had very little damage at the allotment but our plot neighbours both had damage to their greenhouses.<\/p>

We also did a bit more tidying up in readiness for spring. A path was cleared down the side of the gooseberry and kiwi fence and some more beds were cleared of weeds. Unfortunately, we now need to have another bonfire to get rid of the debris.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

16 February 2022<\/h3>

Getting ready for spring, he\u2019s eating our worms<\/h3>

We have been making the most of a dry February and getting the plot prepared for spring. Our early beds are dug over ready for early crops of potatoes, broad beans and brassicas. As a bonus managed to dig over some beds for later crops. A blackbird made the most of finding any worms that had been brought to the surface. We\u2019ve got plenty of spring bulbs showing through so hopefully, we won\u2019t be getting any more cold wintry weather.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

12 February 2022<\/h3>

Old lavender bed cleared and an early (or late) bonfire.<\/h3>

The main job for the afternoon was to burn all the prunings from the buddleia, apple hedge and elder trees that had been cut back. Before lighting the bonfire I decided to clear our old lavender bed. It had needed doing for several years but I\u2019d never got around to doing it.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

More swans and ducks plus Ruby’s favourite game<\/h3>

Some video that was taken at Nostell Priory of us feeding the swans and ducks. After that Ruby got a chance to play her favourite game of chase ball.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Cutting back buddleia and finally digging the old strawberry<\/h3><\/div>
No views<\/span> Feb 5, 2023<\/span><\/div>

It\u2019s a couple of years since we started replacing our old strawberry patch but I hadn\u2019t managed to get around to digging it over. I\u2019m hoping we\u2019ll still get enough winter weather to break down the soil. I\u2019m planning on growing a couple of rows of potatoes to help cultivate the soil and get it back into nice friable soil.<\/p>

Our row of buddleia was heavily pruned back. Left unpruned they will grow out of control. Now all that remains to be done is to get rid of all the debris.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
