It needs to be around 17.4\u00b0C for the expected temperature so it&#8217;s about 2.9\u00b0C below average.\u00a0<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>At the allotment, some things seem to be enjoying the cool and wet weather. Last year our potatoes never grew very well at all and never produced any decent haulms. However, I&#8217;ve been growing potatoes for long enough now to know not to count on too much until the roots are lifted towards the end of August or beginning of September.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>Of course, there has to be a downside and squashes, beans and courgettes that would like some conditions more akin to July are struggling in the cool temperatures.\u00a0<\/div><div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1676\" src=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Snapshot-08-07-2020-19_35.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Snapshot-08-07-2020-19_35.jpg 640w, https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Snapshot-08-07-2020-19_35-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/div><div><footer>Our French and runner beans are still thinking about climbing up the canes. Hopefully, a few warmer days will persuade them that it would be a good idea.<\/footer><footer><\/footer><footer>Last week saw the windiest day I&#8217;ve recorded in July but luckily the garden and plot survived without any major damage.<\/footer><footer><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1672\" src=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/DSC02912.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/DSC02912.jpg 640w, https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/DSC02912-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/footer><footer><footer>The only casualty that isn&#8217;t going to recover is one of our cardoons. We&#8217;re undecided about what to do to tidy up the plant for the rest of the summer. As bees adore the cardoon flowers we might cut off the flower spikes and see if they will flower in a container full of water.
