The coldest early morning occurred on Thursday when the temperature fell to -0.4\u00b0C or 31.3\u00b0F.<\/div><div class=\"separator\"><figure id=\"attachment_1020\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1020\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1020 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/noaamo-apr2020.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/noaamo-apr2020.png 640w, https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/noaamo-apr2020-300x177.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1020\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Weather Records &#8211; May 2020<\/figcaption><\/figure><div>As you can see from the values in the red box we&#8217;ve had a run of 4 frosty nights in a row. It&#8217;s the first time I&#8217;ve recorded a below 0\u00b0C (32\u00b0F) temperature beyond the first week of May. The previous record was -1.0\u00b0C (30.2\u00b0F) recorded on 06 May 2012 so Thursday extended that record by a week.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>We had already taken the precaution of protecting as much as possible at the allotment. All our potatoes were covered with soil or compost and our strawberry flowers were protected with a covering of fleece and environmesh. Unfortunately, there are a few things that we don&#8217;t protect and in varying degrees these have been caught by the frost.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>Our kiwis are susceptible to frost catching their young shoots.<\/div><div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1023 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Snapshot-14-05-2020-19\uf02247.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Snapshot-14-05-2020-19\uf02247.jpg 640w, https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Snapshot-14-05-2020-19\uf02247-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/div><div><div>This is our large fruited kiwi, although it has never fruited, and as expected the young leaves have been knocked back by the cold temperatures.<\/div><div class=\"separator\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1022 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Snapshot-14-05-2020-19\uf02247-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Snapshot-14-05-2020-19\uf02247-2.jpg 640w, https:\/\/ossettweather.com\/gardening2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Snapshot-14-05-2020-19\uf02247-2-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/div><div><div>Our other kiwi is called Issai and has produced small fruits when it grew in our garden at home.
