A little later than normal our first two rows of Casablanca (First Early) potatoes were planted today. Soil conditions were reasonable good despite recent fairly large amounts of rainfall. They were not planted through weed control fabric as this makes earthing up to protect the emerging shoots from late frosts more difficult. It is also easier to harvest individual roots of early potatoes when they are planted without weed control fabric.
