parsnip 3

Parsnip seeds must be planted straight into the soil or the roots will not grow properly.

If the soil is heavy then it is best to sow the seeds in a shallow trench of compost. This way the seeds have a better chance of germinating and the young seedling can get off to a good start.

Parsnip seeds need to be sown about one centimetre deep. The seeds are really light so should not be sown in windy weather as the seeds may blow away.
