Beetroot seed can be sown about 2.5 centimetres deep directly into the soil or sown in seed trays, cells or pots to plant out later. If they are sown directly into the soil the seedlings may need to be thinned out to allow room for the beetroot to grow. Thinning out means to pull out some of the seedlings. You should leave one seedling about every ten centimetres.
