Phase Two - Replacement of Top Boundary Fence

and Pedestrian Gates

Once phase one of our boundary security has been completed we turned our focus to phase two. When completed this would replace the top boundary fence and the two pedestrian gates.

Probably our most vulnerable point of access was one of the two the pedestrian gates. This gate was not only in a poor state of repair but also very easily climbed over and had been used as an access point for vandals and children intent on mischief. In short it may as well have not be there!

With this in mind, the contractors, who worked on our entrance, were asked to offer a firm quotation for the replacement of this gate with one of a similar style to the entrance. The quote was affordable and work started on replacing this gate soon after.

Soon after the gate was installed it became apparent that the surrounding fence was not strong enough to support the use of the gate and so it was permanently locked and no longer used as an access point.

With this in mind, the contractors, who worked on our entrance, were asked to offer a firm quotation for the replacement of this gate with one of a similar style to the entrance. The quote was affordable and work started on replacing this gate soon after.

Efforts then turned towards funding the top fence and second pedestrian gate.

We obtained a rough estimate of the cost of this work which was approximately £6,000 for the fencing and £700 for the gate. This would replace this boundary with a fence and gate in the same style as the entrance. Obviously the more time that it would take for us to accumulate any funding then the more the cost would rise. The price of steel was increasing all the time.

An application was sent to Awards for All in an attempt to gain funding for the rest of phase two, i.e. top fence and pedestrian gate but unfortunately this was unsuccessful as the project didn't match the funding’s aims and objectives so we were at stalemate.

At this point, due to some unpleasantness on site we had to suspend our boundary improvements.
